Turkish Promise Ring
aka: puzzle ring

These videos were inspired to show a friend how to
assemble an heirloom from her father
.

There are various versions of the Turkish promise ring, from the puzzle
design to the number of bands: 4, 6, and 8.  The foundation of the design
is based on four (4) bands.  The six (6) band version in essence has the
two  middle or outer bands "split" into two.  For the six band one herein,
when assembling the bands 2&3 and 4&5 are treated as pairs.

History:
This type of ring is attributed to Turkey the history of it's design
is uncertain. Some say it was designed by a nobleman for his
beloved so that when they were aprt she would remain faithful.

Others believe it was a clever Turkish artisan designed it to sell to
U.S. military men stationed there to buy a souvenir for a loved one.

Another possibly history is that the father of the bride would give it to
the bridegroom on the morning of his wedding day, since in a traditional
Turkish wedding the groom has a long wait while the bride engages in
several rites and rituals while preparing for the evening ceremony.  The
puzzle ring would occupy the time and possibly calm the anxious groom.

Today, both women and men give the ring as an expression of
friendship / love, or as a promise for faithfulness.
It's a beautiful symbol of interconnected as one.
